Spring Poem
They say
Only after a long cold
Does one know the warmth
Only after the frozen white
Can one see the colors
Only after smooth slip
Will one feel the earth.
They say
only after the solitary
cocooning
silent
winter
One may hear spring.

3.16.10
melt from the last
of last February’s snow
seeps from the earth,
drips over sand-
stone
(thick lip
high above
shale)
and drops
to a pool
forty feet below
deep now in March
dry by May.
